Our success stories

David

Librarian/Musician

My story is a long one involving 30 years of right-sided pain from head to toe, visits to countless health care providers of all sorts, multiple right-sided surgeries to repair unusual cartilage and tendon tears, and a huge monetary output.  I lived as well as I knew how to live: regularly stretched and worked out as much as my body would allow, had regular massage therapy, ate a healthy diet, stayed well-hydrated, and made sufficient sleep a priority.  However, by the fall of 2013 it was taking me an hour and a half to get out of bed in the morning, numbness and tingling that once affected only my right arm and leg had spread to my left side, breathing was becoming a chore, almost every joint in my body ached to some degree, and I experienced unsettling dizziness dozens of times a day. A decade before, one of the many healthcare providers I saw diagnosed me with trigger points (tension knots) in my right shoulder—the first diagnosis that made sense.  Feeling to my core that these trigger points were the key, I desperately searched the Internet for “trigger point therapy Greenville North Carolina.” I got no hits for practices in Greenville, but I did get one for Triangle Trigger Point Therapy in Raleigh.  I read about Terrie Bellairs and the work she does, and, though I knew it would involve a great deal of time, money, and travel, I had to investigate.  It was the best decision I ever made. In the very first appointment, Terrie told me I was doing everything right and yet I still had chronic severe issues.  She went on to say that in her experience situations like this were usually the result of leg length discrepancies, whether anatomical (from birth) or functional (due to skeletal misalignment).  She had my legs measured and we found that I had unknowingly suffered from both during my life.  I was born with my right leg .28 inches shorter than the left (a quarter of an inch is all it takes!), which resulted in my body compacting the bones of my left side in order to achieve balance with the right.  A severe knee cartilage tear in my mid-40s led to surgeons at Duke adding the missing .28 inches to the right leg (though I was never told that’s what they did), but my left side was incapable of undoing the skeletal compaction that had been in place for so many years.  Hence, my worsening and more widespread symptoms in the seven years following that surgery. Terrie directed me to Dr. John Boccella at Atlas Chiropractic to address my functional leg length problem. I was at first ambivalent because my past experiences with chiropractors had not been good.  Terrie assured me that atlas orthogonal chiropractic was the opposite of what I had experienced in the past so I trusted her.  It was the next best decision I ever made.  In the four months since, Dr. Boccella has gently convinced my skeletal system to accept new patterns while Teri Bellairs has gently convinced my ingrained muscle trigger points to let go.  Given the chronic nature of my symptoms, my body’s response has been amazingly rapid, and I believe this is due to the fact that both the skeleton and the muscles are being attended to simultaneously by the Bellairs/Boccella team.  Things are not perfect yet, but they are far better than they were.  And I have no reason to believe they couldn’t be at least nearly perfect at some point because I continue to notice improvements every day. I can’t close my testimonial without adding compliments of the highest order to every member of the Triangle Trigger Point Therapy and Atlas Chiropractic teams.  From my first calls to Karen at Triangle Trigger Point and Kristy at Atlas, to Gwen’s careful diagnostic exams and assistance to Dr. John, I know I have been in good hands.  My heartfelt thanks to you all.  You have changed my life!

I began seeing Terrie 10 years ago after a hip replacement and developing chronic pain in my back and legs.  And she did a wonderful job getting me out of all that.  But the most amazing thing I have come to realize with maintenance over the years, is that because of working with Terrie I have grown to like my body more and more the older I have gotten!  I take good care of myself, eat healthy and walk and swim daily and I know I would never have grown older feeling this good if it had not been for receiving NMT.  And I fly to Raleigh from New York several times a year just for maintenance.  Terrie, you have no idea how much you have done for me!  I only wish all the people I tell about how I stay pain free would listen to me, but they don’t.  And I feel better than anyone I know who is my age even after two hip replacements and a knee surgery.  I have a wonderful, active life and feel amazing!

I was originally referred to TTPT by a friend for a shoulder injury in April 2006 and it was so beneficial for my migraines and chronic neck pain that I have continued to do periodic treatments for sustained relief.  I have also referred other people to TTPT to help with their specific injuries and problems.

I went to see TTPT after experiencing a terrible case of whiplash.  Before that I could not stand or sit for very long and I was having constant pain.  After 8 months of therapy, I can now play tennis again and have returned to all of my normal activities.  TTPT has given me my life back.

TTPT has been working with me now for about two or three years and the improvement and knowledge that I have gained are exceptional.  I originally came in with lower back pain, tennis elbow and sore wrists from golf and playing tennis and since working with them on a regular basis I can both play my sports and travel as I need to without pain.  I would recommend TTPT to anyone!

I came to see TTPT because I was experiencing extreme weakness, numbness and fatigue in my right arm along with a good deal of aching in the right shoulder blade area.  I had been having this for a number of years and the condition had gotten progressively more severe.  I had previously seen a number of physicians, including an orthopedic surgeon and had tried numerous other therapies such as physical therapy, chiropractic, acupuncture, yoga and even other kinds of massage such as ayurvedic massage without any improvement.  After only one session with NMT I already had results.  And with continued therapy I have been able to maintain a more than adequate level of function with 90% improvement overall.

I originally sought out treatment at TTPT for the consistent neck, back and hip pain that I was having due to spending too much time at my desk during work hours, as well as from having a hectic travel schedule that included carrying heavy luggage and sitting on long flights.  After years of going to chiropractors and massage therapists, I can definitely say that the relief I have gotten at TTPT has been the best I have ever received.  I look forward to my treatments knowing how much better I will feel once the session is over.  I would come every day if I could!

I initially came to TTPT six months after having lower lumbar back surgery.  I had completed my physical therapy but still had pain in my left leg and buttock area and it was suggested to me that I see a massage therapist for neuromuscular therapy. TTPT has helped me recover 100% from my residual pain with the neuromuscular massage therapy and the stretching exercises that I was given to do at home.

I do a lot of business travel and come home from long trips feeling very beat up.  I have noticed a big difference in the way that I bounce back as a result of working with neuromuscular therapy.  My therapist is able to quickly address whatever my current problem is and get me feeling human again!  I have been working with TTPT for about a year now and have found that NMT really does make a difference.

Terrie is a gift to all she touches.  Not only does her expansive experience in her style of therapy make her valuable in her field but her sincere approach to helping her clients makes her unique; because her concern for your wellbeing is genuine.  Just one visit and you know you are in the right hands.  When I came to Terrie I was a wreck, both physically and mentally.  I was in a car accident and after twenty two months of dealing with pain I finally had a cervical fusion.  The prescribed physical therapy just wasn’t enough, so a friend referred me to Terrie’s practice.  She warmly welcomed me and she took the time to really understand what was going on before she began to work on me.  After just one session I felt relief, but it was more than just physical relief.  Anyone who has ever experienced pain knows the mental toll it takes on you, and Terrie can understand that having been there herself.  Her warmth goes hand in hand with her knowledge.  She also explained things to me that no one else ever did which put me at ease.  There aren’t many people you meet that have a gift so apparent and I can’t tell you how thankful I am every day that Terrie was put into my life.  As time passed I began to feel myself returning to normal again and for that I will always be thankful.  Thank you Terrie for giving me my life back!

I suffered with pain between my shoulder blades and in my shoulders and neck for many years.  I tried several different methods to get rid of this pain and was unsuccessful until I went to see Terrie at TTPT.  Teri took a look at my back and then worked on areas of my body that no one has ever touched before to help with my pain.  I was amazed at how great I felt immediately after my session.  Terrie also recommended several stretching techniques for me to do at home to help myself as well.  Thanks to the work done on my muscles and the home exercises Terrie has taught me I have been feeling better than I have felt in years.  I am so grateful to Terrie for helping me feel good again.  It really has made such a wonderful difference in my life.  Thank you!

I have been going to Terrie at TTPT since she was recommended to me following a car accident.  I could not get the relief I needed to drive the distance to my job, nor could I sit comfortably for my normal work day.  My initial visits were weekly and tapered off and I got better.  Well, that was years ago and ever since I have done a maintenance program with TTPT by choice.  They provide individualized care and are just fabulous to work with.  As I have continued on this journey of life they have continued to support my changing needs. I always look forward to my next visit!

The staff at TTPT has been extremely helpful on my road to recovery.  I was having back and leg problems so severe that I was not sure I would be able to get up and walk, much less play tennis.  I no longer have the pain in my back or a hard time moving and live a full active lifestyle.  I have known Terrie for more than 3 years now and I wish it had not taken me 2 years to go see her in the first place.  I now see her once a month and am a true believer in taking care of myself with maintenance.

I am a 6-1/2 year breast cancer survivor.  I had a double mastectomy followed by 2 reconstructive surgeries that left me in tremendous pain.  My doctor recommended I try TTPT.  Terrie met with me and we discussed my pain and my goals and what she would be doing to help me.  Then Terrie helped me go from pain 100% of the time to having an episode only 20% or less of the time.  And not only has she helped me with pain, but she has also become a dear friend.

I have always felt Terrie has the magic key to unlock things!  She is professional, exceptionally trained and always interested in staying on the cutting edge by wanting to learn and not stay stagnant in her profession.  She listens carefully to what your symptoms are to evaluate the best ways to help you.  And she makes sure that you have your doctors’ approval.  And if she cannot help you or thinks you need additional things she will be honest and tell you.  She wants you to get better and out of pain, and she will just plain help you to maintain your body to keep you healthy and feeling great!! She is a true healer, has a heart of gold, loves what she does and has a passion for it.  I am very lucky Terrie came into my life and that she has always been there able to help me…THANK YOU!!!

I have been a client of Terrie’s for almost 10 years, initially for lower back pain and then for treatment of normal aches and pains from physical activity. She has never failed to bring relief and healing to my body pain issues.  We now have a monthly maintenance session to help maintain my physical health. Terrie is a true professional with exceptional assessment skills and massage techniques.  She is truly a gifted healer! I would recommend her to anyone with physical discomfort.

I was extremely frustrated by continued pain in my neck and back.  I had been working with a chiropractor for years to manage the pain. A friend suggested Terrie at TTPT and I worked with them for 6-8 weeks with marked improvement.  I am now stretching several mornings a week and am on a maintenance program to continue treating myself (and my muscles) well!  I highly recommend this group.

Michael, 39

I continued to come back to TTPT after my initial visit because Terrie took the time to discuss my full medical history on the front end.  And she was prepared to analyze and find a solution for the source of my pain. I had immediate results from the work (although at times it hurt!). I came to realize that Terrie was going to be able to find the root source of my pain and that she was genuinely concerned about helping me to feel better both immediately and long-term by recommending specific things that I could do to avoid discomfort in the future.  I trusted her back in 1995 and I trust her just as much today to always relieve my pain and to be a source of analysis as to how I got it. I would recommend her to anyone that I care about who is in pain- for obvious reasons or “mysterious.

I highly recommend NMT for any kind of chronic muscular pain. And the staff at TTPT is exceptional because of the training and quality work that Terrie has provided to them and to her field for the past 20+ years.  They are sensitive, kind and wonderful listeners.  Totally professional.  NMT has been a lifesaver for me over the years and has continued to keep me pain free as I have gotten older. Thank you for all your love and care!!

Terrie has been a life saver for me on numerous occasions for nearly twenty years now. Since I tend to overdo training, I have had many nagging injuries. She has cured me quickly, but more importantly helps me each time to consider underlying causes, and learn new stretches and weight training techniques which won’t cause injury. She can treat symptoms easily, but she is more interested in addressing the underlying problem to prevent long term reoccurrences.  And her warm and engaging style is very patient friendly. I recommend TTPT with no reservation and have done so through the years to the deep gratitude of friends and patients whom I have sent to Terrie and her colleagues.

TTPT kept me working and functional for a long time until surgery became the only option.  After which, now Terrie keeps me functional so I don’t re-injure my self. Her professionalism and knowledge are unsurpassed. It is much more than feeling good.  It’s about getting healthy.

I went to see my dentist with pain in my lower jaw, thinking I absolutely was headed for a root canal.  She sent me to Terrie who has eased my aching jaw ever since.  No more broken night guards or crowns! Terrie also solved several other body aches when no one else could.  She immediately knew which muscles were troubled and the appropriate stretches to get me back into working order. Terrie, with her warm heart and superior expertise is now a part of my life and on my schedule forever.  No retiring for you, Terrie! I plan to have you around until I’m not.  Big hugs to you!

Working with Terrie has been a blessing to me. I was in constant pain from the age of 11, with a torn groin muscle, Legg Perthes, and several hip surgeries, including a hip replacement.  All the orthopedic doctors told me that my only other option was more surgery and more anti-inflammatory medication. Terrie noticed that I had a substantial leg length imbalance from my replacement and once it was corrected it I eventually got out of pain. I am now medication free and virtually pain free everyday.  Whenever I do experience pain, thanks again to Terrie, I have the tools to help myself out of it through proper stretching, exercises, correcting my posture, etc. I credit Terrie and TTPT for everything.  She is extremely knowledgeable and I thank God everyday for bringing her into my life and for waking up pain free on a consistent basis!  Before her, my life was very difficult.  And I’m not sure if I have ever told her, and if I have … certainly not enough –Thanks Terrie for all you do!!!  You totally ROCK!

My orthopedic surgeon recommended that both my knees be replaced many years ago, but I am unable to use anesthesia. Because of Terrie and her staff and one monthly NMT session, I have been able to stay on my feet for the past 14 years with less pain and more flexibility.  They were also able to help me with a dislocated shoulder.  And recently I have also begun doing more exercise and stretching which has been most helpful.  I am now getting into a routine to gain even more strength and improvement as I continue to stay active.

Terrie is a highly competent professional.  And I have found that she can get rid of pain in a far shorter amount of time than can other therapists. Per visit, she charges more, but because she gets rid of pain in far fewer visits than other therapists, she actually charges far less “per pain!

Terrie and her staff are nothing short of amazing.  Their ability to resolve the underlying causes of chronic pain is unparalleled. Anyone who has battled pain without relief from medications and other techniques owes themselves a visit to Terrie and this clinic.

Terrie was very helpful with eliminating the pain in my elbow, which allowed me to get back to my tennis!  She keeps my body in working order now which also allows me to do the other various sports I enjoy. Headaches, back pain: Beverly 62, Raleigh, NC Retired. “I originally went to Teri at TTPT for lower back pain and she not only helped me with that, but now keeps my body in shape so that I can enjoy the yard work that I love.  I also have much fewer headaches because of the work on my neck and back muscles. Bursitis in both hips/sciatica, difficulties walking: Tanya, 65, Raleigh, NC Homemaker.  “Ten years ago, playing with my grandchildren, climbing fences, swinging on rope swings, hiking through the woods as well as riding on the back of my husbands’ motorcycle were easy activities to enjoy. Then a nagging pain that had been in my left hip began to increase through the years.  It was originally treated once with a cortisone injection, which gave some relief for a while.  Then the pain recurred and eventually the injections did no good.  Nor did spinal pain injections offered by my orthopedic.  Yet my spine and hip x-rays were “unremarkable.” Pain management was recommended.  But I wanted to know the root cause of the pain, not just how to endure it with medication. My dear husband recommended that I see a chiropractor and a trigger point therapist since I had not responded to several very kind and capable doctors’ attempts to treat my pain.  My whole life style was being affected by my pain and I was getting to where I could not walk, climb steps, or sleep on my side. So I went to a good chiropractor we knew, and had also heard three people speak of TTPT and how they had been helped there. So I called.  Terrie was incredibly well trained with years of experience and having had pain herself in the past, she understood what I was going through almost without my having to say a word.  She could see the pain in my face, and could see by watching my gait how much I struggled just to walk.  Once she started doing the treatments for my muscles and trigger points I immediately felt a peace that my path was about to change, and that was true. It took several months to gain good mobility and to effectively relieve the pain.  And during that time it was also suggested that I have my leg length evaluated and it was discovered that my right leg was structurally shorter.  This imbalance had been what was causing my nagging pain all along and once it was corrected I had no more left side hip pain.  And our daughter had the very same experience.  How could only a ¼” make that much of a difference? Well, it does because I felt the relief from the remedy.  But eventually I still had to have a knee surgery because over the years of walking around with even a small imbalance, it wore away my ligaments on one side.  That was 2 years ago.  Now, it is so wonderful to be able to walk again, climb steps and sleep on either side without pain.  And I still can enjoy playing with my grandchildren and riding on the back of my husband’s motorcycle!  The high level of competence of the compassionate, kind and well trained professionals at TTPT is remarkable. They have also become dear friends to me and they are a vital part of my health maintenance program as the years tick away.  Aging does not have to be painful on any level and I believe that God placed Terrie and her practice in my life to keep me up and running in order to be the best I can be for my ministry to my family, friends, and those whom I have yet to meet.

Leslie, 55, Raleigh, NC

Dental Office Manger/Assistant

Dental office workers are known for having back, neck and shoulder pain from the positions in which we sit.  Trigger point therapy relieves the discomfort.  And for ten years Terrie also noticed that I had a substantial leg length difference and encouraged me to address it, which I chose to ignore, until eventually 5 discs in my neck herniated.  At that point Terrie referred me to a doctor who had an alternative treatment to surgery that worked to help my discs correctly reposition.  By that time I agreed to address my leg length issue, and finally started wearing a build on my right shoes.  Now for the first time since I can remember, I have been pain free for over a year!  Excruciating pain is a great motivator and I seriously wish I had listened earlier.  Thank you Terrie! Love you!!!

The day my doctor referred me to TTPT was one of the best days of my life, as I had been suffering with neck and back pain for several years. One day, I turned my neck like you would a thousand times a day and it popped and caused excruciating pain.  I put my hand up to rub it and was unable to lower my arm again. I went to see my doctor and she referred me to Terrie.  That was almost 20 years ago.  Aside from my original neck and back pain, Terrie also helped me with many other problems.  She did more for my plantar fasciitis than my podiatrist and she kept me from having to have carpal tunnel surgery. She also helped me discover that I had a structural leg length difference and after using a build on my shoes, I no longer have the severe pains that I had lived with since my 20’s. For over 40 years not one medical professional ever noticed that I had a leg length imbalance!  Even as a child, I would have a hip or knee “go out” when I would run or tumble but no one put it together.  My parents took me to doctors about it and they never could come up with a reason. I truly believe that if I had not started seeing Terrie, I would most likely be disabled by now.  She has done more to improve my quality of life with trigger-point therapy than I have had with any other therapy or treatment I have done before or since. I recommend this clinic to everyone I meet who lives with chronic pain.

Special Operation - Army

While deployed on a Special Forces "A" detachment in a combat zone, I was involved in two explosive device incidents in which I incurred soft tissue damage, traumatic brain injury and deeper right side joint damage issues. The result of these injuries was almost constant hip, head and shoulder pain with additional dark emotional/psychological challenges. With no help from traditional drugs therapies, I reached out to Terrie and TTPT. She transformed the way I thought about, and approached pain and pain release. Through deep tissue therapy, meditation and bio-realignment I have been able to reduce my pain to almost nil and when acute physical or emotional pain does arise I have awareness systems I use to isolate and control. Terrie has literally not only saved my life, but opened my consciousness up to an entirely new way of seeing and realizing gratitude. Thank you  Namaste"

I initially came to Triangle Trigger Point in 2007 when I heard about them from a fellow triathlete training for the Ironman Florida.  I suffered from constant leg cramps, lower back pain and shoulder pain and after only 5 visits I was pain free-which says a lot considering the daily pounding I was putting myself through.  Florida was the first race I’ve ever done where I didn’t cramp up!  I’m happy to say that doing a session only once every 12 weeks has kept me pain free since 2007.  I highly recommend TTPT for any serious athlete.

I was pleased to find that when I first walked into Triangle Trigger Point Therapy only a few weeks ago, that the office and staff were very professional and caring.  My favorite aspect of the clinic is their focus on holistic care and educating clients about proper nutrition, stretching and injury recovery.

Frequent pain relievers and muscle relaxants were the only way to have any pain relief prior to visiting TTPT.  Now the norm is to stretch (the right way!) and if I feel tightness or pain beginning that usually takes care of it.  My life is much easier and more fulfilling because I am able to easily do all the activities that were once so difficult.  I feel that I can now control pain, and pain doesn’t control me.  TTPT does an excellent job with rehabilitation and education.  They are the best!

Many years ago now, an acquaintance knew that I was not getting the results I was looking for through classic massage therapy and recommended that I try Terrie.  My issues included migraines, chronic neck and shoulder pain and other chronic pain attributed to fibromyalgia.  Today, I don’t have the migraines or the chronic neck and shoulder pain.  And this by itself was enough for Terrie to have won my trust and loyalty, but she always takes the issue of resolving pain to the next level.  And through her continued efforts, an undiagnosed limb length discrepancy was also discovered and resolved.  That alone has made a big difference in the way I feel.  After 53 years without correction, today I wonder whether it was this very imbalance that caused my scoliosis and the resulting issue of fibromyalgia.  We continue to work together for creating a pain free future for me and today I am more hopeful than ever.  TTPT, I love you all!

My first appointment with Teri at TTPT was literally a life-altering experience for me. She has a holistic understanding of the mind and body that is invaluable to anyone suffering from discomfort.  I have seen many doctors and therapists over the past few years, and I can honestly say that Terrie has been the most helpful and influential of them all.  I am not 100% yet, but I am significantly better and have had lasting improvements.

TTPT was a miracle for me.  I had tried many medications, but none could prevent the daily recurring migraines.  I was in pain every day for nine months before I heard about Terrie.  I experienced relief after the very first session with her and it wasn’t long before my migraines were under control.  Terrie’s expertise and commitment to excellence are a welcome addition to my medical arsenal.

I have suffered from migraines since about age 10.  And I went through drug therapies, traction and chiropractic without any real relief.  It was not unusual to have an 18-34 hour migraine once a week, and a headache every single day.  Two years ago, my chiropractor referred me to Terrie, and although I was skeptical that anyone could help me, I made an appointment.  By my second visit, I was already receiving substantial relief.  And after four visits it was like a miracle.  I have had perhaps two migraines in the last year or so, and now I go days on end without even a headache.  And when I feel one approaching, Terrie has shown me how to relieve it myself before it takes hold.  Thank you Teri for giving me my life back!

TTPT made it possible for me to avoid shoulder surgery.  Sure, there was some discomfort associated with the therapy, but with only an hour of treatment once a week for a few months and exercise, my range of motion returned and the pain and discomfort totally went away. Today, I have full use of my shoulder and all without having to deal with the problems that surgery can often present.

My entire family and I have been going to Terrie for over 13 years. Most of us have regularly scheduled appointments just to stay on top of any issues we have.  Terrie is a delightful person and an absolute professional.  She is the best.

I had consulted several doctors about my chronic back problems over the years and had gone through lots of tests and MRI’s but was never diagnosed because I didn’t have a disc problem or a reduced range of motion.  What I did have however, was pain.  So I was given medication.  Which didn’t work.  It just made me feel stupid.  I had been to a total of 9 different physical therapists, the best of whom gave me an hour or two of relief, and the worst made things worse.  Finally, a nurse practitioner recommended Terrie to me and from the very first visit I could feel my body healing.  And the day after my initial session I knew I had found the right person.  I ended up having scoliosis and a structural leg length imbalance that doctors had told me didn’t matter.  But it did.  Even pain free, I have chosen to see Teri for periodic maintenance for the last decade.  She made my life worth living again.

Terrie is a master when it comes to the soft tissues.  She is truly in a league of her own even among other trigger-point and bodywork therapists I have known.  This is evident in her amazing ability to read the body and zero in on the underlying causes of pain and problems.  As a health care practitioner, I refer clients frequently to Terrie for her unique skills and she is part of my own personal health care team whenever I have soft tissue pain.  I highly recommend TTPT.

I highly recommend Triangle Trigger Point Therapy and Terrie Bellairs. Terrie is professional and she gets results. I had severe back pain for months after an injury. Triangle Trigger-Point Therapy fixed me up and got me out of pain.   More importantly Triangle Trigger Point Therapy helped me to understand by body, the importance of stretching, and the significance of proper nutrition. I am convinced these life lessons have put me on a pain-free path. Thank you Terrie and Triangle Trigger Point Therapy team.

I want to thank you for your treatment for my back/leg pain. You and Amy Slater together have done more for me than two medical doctors and a chiropractor. You knew just what to do, and it worked! Your treatment and advice about hydration not only helped relieve my pain but they are also boosting my overall health and fitness. I am very grateful for your help.
